Justin Bean

PhD Project Title
Translating Earth System Boundaries to building level across multiple impact categories, to better inform decision making in the UK Construction Sector.

Justin is a Project Architect & PhD Researcher as a member of the Institute of Sustainability at the University of Bath. Having graduating with a Masters of Architecture at the Royal College of Art, and previously the University of Bath in 2018, he has worked as a practicing architect for 8 years, most recently developing a specialism in the education sector working on primary and higher education projects in the UK & US.

He contributes to conversations on climate change and sustainable development, currently participating in Annex 89 of the International Energy Agency. He spends time championing methods to bear witness to a changing planet, with his work at the University of Bath developing techniques to assign science-based limits to industries and companies within a defined ‘safe operating space’.

Previously his work has been recognized internationally, being awarded the RIBA Bronze Medal in 2018.
