Owen graduated from the University of Huddersfield in 2017 with an MChem in Chemistry. During his degree, Owen spent a year at DECHEMA-Forschungsinstitut in Frankfurt, Germany. There he researched ceria-based nanoparticle infused coatings to prevent corrosion on a magnesium alloy. His final year project at Huddersfield involved synthesising a ruthenium coordinated dinuclear double helicate and investigating how a subtle change to the structure can make big thermodynamic and kinetic changes. After graduating, Owen spent some time working for ThermoFisher Scientific as a regulatory affairs specialist.
Owen has many hobbies outside of academia, but he particularly enjoys playing sports, going to the gym and singing to his Japanese peace lily called Lily.
