Industry & Innovation
Working with industry to address real-world needs in relation to sustainability has been a driving force of the CSCT since its establishment in 2008. Through our many industrial partners and through our innovation programmes – including the Sustainable Technologies Business Acceleration Hub (STBAH) and the West of England Sustainable Technology Scale-Up Programme – we have cultivated close links with industry, from startups to multinational corporations, providing support and knowledge exchange between sectors. With our Innovation Centre for Applied Sustainable Technologies (iCAST) we aim to bring together academic expertise and industry to facilitate innovation in sustainable technologies. Scientists and engineers in industry often have a very different and valuable perspective on R&D challenges, shaped by the need to deliver profitable products to the market. Involvement of industrial partners in collaborative research projects, PhD projects or visiting positions is, therefore, a key feature of the CSCT work. By involving industrial partners, we ensure that all of our staff and doctoral students have experience in industry-relevant research and in working with stakeholders outside academia.

Ways to Collaborate with Us
Together with our partners, we co-create opportunities that advance sustainability, exchange knowledge, and deliver
real-world impact.
Co-Create a PhD Project
Partner with University of Bath academics to jointly design and co-fund (50% to 100%) a three-year PhD project. You will work closely with our academic team to shape the project, contribute to ongoing supervision, and address sustainability challenges that are important to your organisation and to society. You may also fund the initial MRes year, where students complete core training and two interdisciplinary research projects that you would co-design. This helps them build the skills and experience required to progress confidently into the PhD.
Host an Internship
Offer our PhD students an internship of up to three months. Internships must relate to sustainability but do not need to align with the student’s individual PhD research. This is a great way to bring fresh perspectives and skills into your team.
Provide In-Kind Contributions
Support our community through in-kind contributions such as hosting site visits, delivering guest lectures, seminars or training, or providing materials or datasets.
